Bareknuckle Fighting Championship 10 – BKFC10

Fort Lauderdale, FL:  What’s better than seeing a knockout?  How about seeing six knockouts on the same fight card?  Well, that’s exactly what fans who attended Saturday night’s event saw, as Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship made its way down to South Florida.  The event – BKFC’s tenth installment – put on its very first show in the area and third overall in the state of Florida.  Once again, it did not disappoint, as the crowd in attendance at The Broward County Convention Center were treated to a very well-planned event.

There is something different about bareknuckle fighting (other than the lack of gloves or pads).  It’s raw and pure.  When the action is pressed, a knockout is all but imminent.  It’s the “edge of your seat” type stuff.  You don’t want to blink, because you may very well miss “it.”  BKFC has arrived, and it looks to only get better as time marches on.  Provided the sanctioning bodies that be – along with the state athletic commissions – continue to let it run wild and free as it is, it may very well be the next big thing!

A special shout out goes to Dat Nguyen, who had the knockout of the night at 1:51 of Round 1 after putting down his opponent, Abdiel Velazquez, for the second time in the round.  Nguyen, who got up off of the canvas himself, landed a perfectly-placed left hook that had Velazquez out before he ever began his descent to the canvas.  A scary few minutes followed, as Velazquez lay motionless before finally getting back to his feet and showing the crowd he was alright.

Another shout out goes to both Jim Alers and Caleb Harris, who put on the performance of the night.  The quarter-final bout in the 155-pound weight class was packed with excitement.  Each round was an individual battle with nonstop action throughout all five.  Although Alers, who is now 4-0 in his BKFC career, got the better of Harris overall – as well as a majority decision – Harris never quit.  This fight certainly showed what bareknuckle brawlers are all about.

Final shout outs go to Hector Lombard and Uly “Monster” Diaz for securing their very first BKFC wins in separate bouts.  Lombard, a well-decorated MMA star and inaugural Bellator champion, received a well-deserved unanimous decision while “Monster” got a first-round knockout after his opponent failed to beat the ten count.  We hope to see more of them both on future cards.
