Vazquez vs Bone
Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT today for a couple of hours of high-octane fisticuffs from Cowboys Dancehall in San AntonioJust two years ago, Miguel Vazquez was a 135-pound world champion who had successfully defended his crown seven times as part of a 13-fight winning streak. Now he’s a former champ who has dropped two of his last three bouts, with both losses coming by narrow unanimous decision.
A native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the 29-year-old Vazquez is determined to put himself back in championship contention, only this time at a higher weight class, having moved up to 144 pounds after fighting between 133 and 139 pounds for the past 7½ years.
To reach his desired destination, Vazquez will have to get past Erick Bone, a slick boxer-puncher from Manabí, Ecuador, who is as hungry to earn his first world title opportunity as his opponent is to return to glory.
This will be the 27-year-old Bone’s third consecutive bout against a former champ, having faced Shawn Porter (as a last-minute fill-in) and Chris Algieri in his previous two outings. After losing both of those fights, Bone is hellbent on making the third time the charm by defeating Vazquez.
