The Change-up
Exactly 4 years ago this week, we all suffered through Mayweather-Pacquiao. Boxing has come a long way since then. First off, real fights are finally being made. Belts are on the line for unification. And, whether we like it or not, streaming services have taken over. The opinion of this reporter is that these services will not last as the main option for viewing. It’s a lot more inconvenient than it is convenient for most people. With the service, sports bars are prohibited from showing the sites. The clarity and quality of the videos are garbage. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I rather enjoy joining a hundred plus people in a crowded sports bar to catch a major fight. Moreover, mirroring the streaming video from one’s device onto a qualified TV also has its issues. Again, with complications such as what took place this evening with the Alvarez-Jacobs weigh-in, the streaming services will certainly have a tough time making their case that this is the future of boxing. I guess only time will tell…???
