Martin vs JoshuaCharles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) picked up his first world title in a most unusual way in his last outing. Fighting for a vacant crown, Martin defeated Vyacheslav Glazkov in January when the Ukranian fighter severely injured his right knee in the third round and was unable to continue.
Officially, Martin won by technical knockout, meaning the 29-year-old Southern California resident will enter his first title defense having stopped 13 consecutive opponents.
Impressive as that accomplishment is, Britain’s Anthony Joshua can top it: The 2012 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist has knocked out all 15 opponents he’s faced in his 2½ year pro career, the most recent victim being Dillian Whyte, who succumbed in the seventh round in December.
The 6-foot-5 Martin, who readily agreed to cross the pond and give his opponent the home-field advantage for this bout, insists he’ll silence the 20,000 fans at O2 Arena by making Joshua his latest knockout victim. The 6-foot-6 Joshua, however, has vowed to snatch Martin’s title in violent fashion and celebrate with his countrymen.
Who will make good on his promise? Tune in to find out, and also catch extensive highlights of 126-pound champion Lee Selby’s title defense against Eric Hunter from O2 Arena.
