Last night, the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida hosted Fight Time 24, courtesy of Howard Davis Jr.’s Fight Time Promotions. Without a doubt, the arena was on fire, with a heavyweight title on the line and a host of local talent competing to advance their records.
In the main event, following four and a half rounds of punishment, DJ “Da Protege” Linderman (18-9) scored a TKO victory over the elite grappler and UFC veteran Jeff “The Snowman” Monson. Monson has logged over 70 fights in his professional MMA career, not to mention several titles in submission wrestling, competing everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Stikeforce, PRIDE and the UFC. Although Monson’s grappling skills are legendary, Da Protege would have nothing to do with a grappling match. DJ managed to keep the fight off the mat, despite several takedowns by The Snowman. Linderman bloodied the Snowman’s nose in the first round which led to labored breathing and frustration in the 44 year-old Monson. By round two, DJ also opened up a cut on the top of Monson’s head, along with another cut later on by Monson’s right eye. Linderman continued to score with strikes to the head of Monson, showing superior speed and capitalizing on Monson’s compromised breathing and peripheral vision. The fight was stopped at 1:42 of round 5.
