November 13, 2013 offered up an exciting night of professional boxing at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Hollywood, Florida compliments of Michael Oliveira Productions.
In the main event, Michael “The Brazilian Rocky” Oliveira (21-2, 16 KOs) entered the ring with much fanfare and theatrics including his own theme song. His opponent, Norberto “Demonio” Gonzalez (20-2, 13 KOs) was a little more subtle. The battle that ensued was fierce, with both fighters trading heavy blows and lightning fast combinations. A vicious right by Oliveira dropped Gonzalez in the second round, but Gonzalez quickly recovered. Oliveira continued to score with some hard shots to the body of Gonzalez, but Gonzalez consistently landed combinations as Oliveira seemed content to stand toe-to-toe, a serious flaw in the game plan of Oliveira that would ultimately lead to more rounds going to Gonzalez. By the ninth round, Gonzalez was dominating the fight and knocked Oliveira down at the very end of the tenth round. The bell saved Oliveira from a loss due to KO, and Gonzalez won by unanimous decision of all three judges.
In the co-feature, former WBA junior middleweight titlist Yuri Foreman (32-2, 9 KOs) knocked out Javier “Pelon” Gonzalez (14-12, 10 KOs) in just 1:56 of the opening round with a vicious left hook that left Gonzalez motionless on the canvas for a few moments. This was Foreman’s first knockout since 2006.
The undercard featured several exciting bouts dominated by Cuban fighters. Undefeated southpaw Viller Gonzalez (6-0) put on a great show controlling Marcus “The Gatekeeper” Brooks (7-15-1), who failed to answer the bell for round three.
Other Cuban contestants included featherweight Hairon Socarras, light heavyweight Yunieske Gonzalez (who overcame a knockdown in the second round to win by KO in the 8th), and the undefeated, former Olympian Heavyweight Robert Alfonso were also victorious in their matches.
Fighting out of Boca Raton, Cruiserweight Steve Geffard (1-3) showed tenacity and good defensive skills against Jamel Burnside (1-1), pressing the action and landing solid shots to earn his first professional win the ring.
