A Good B.A.D. Night

Hallandale Beach, FL:

Blake Davis and his promotional team at B.A.D. Promotions put on another successful event Saturday night at Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino.  Super Lightweight Sean “Untouchable” Mason (6-0, 4 KOs) kicked off the evening with a quick knockout of Ubaldo Lara to keep his unbeaten career on track.  Bantamweight Frank Gonzalez (9-2, 4 KOs) fought his way to a unanimous decision over a very game Brian Cannady (10-2, 6 KOs) over the course of 8 rounds.  “El Castigador” did just enough to win the majority of the rounds.

Ahmed Elbiali (21-1, 18 KOs) stepped back into the ring after nearly 22 months, the longest layoff of his career.  He took on Bruno Romay, who was clearly not prepared to face “The American Pharaoh.”  It was apparent from the onset of the bout how the fight was going to go.  With that, the fight was stopped by the referee after Elbiali dropped Romay three times before :45 of Round 2.  Now a contender at Super Middleweight, Ahmed looks to stay active in the sport and work his way back to fighting championship-caliber opponents.

In the main event, Blake “BAD” Davis (9-0, 5 KOs) got his fight started with a pair of punishing right hooks to the head of his opponent, Santario Martin.  This punch would be repeated throughout the bout, as would a crafty uppercut, which split Martin’s guard several times.  Still nursing an injured right wrist, which was suffered during training camp, and knowing Martin was throwing anything possible out of sheer desperation, Davis thought it best to simply stick & move and not look for the knockout.  In the end, it was the right decision, and Blake picked up his ninth consecutive win to begin his professional career.

Although a short night, there was quality in the fights and several of the fighters.  It seemed all in attendance enjoyed the event and got to see a little of everything:  back and forth action, a knockout, a stoppage, and a pair of decisions.  February 5, 2022 is the date for the next B.A.D. Promotions event, and it will be right back at Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino.  It remains to be seen if Blake Davis will be fighting on that card or will just be playing host, but you’d better believe it will be another night of fights you won’t want to miss.
