Hollywood, FL.
Kris Lawrence’s The Heavyweight Factory returned to the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino on April 11th for the eighth installment of their Fists of Fury series. Eight bouts and several championship belts were on the line as local favorites and prospects took to the squared circle.
In the headliner, rising star Armando Martinez Rabi (15-0, 14 KOs) earned his eighth consecutive TKO win over Alberto Guevara (27-8-0, 12 KOs), successfully defending his WBA Continental Americas Gold Lightweight Title. Referee Sam Burgos stopped the action after the third knockdown in round number three. The downfall for Guevara, a former world title challenger who’s shared the ring with Emmanuel Rodriguez and Shakur Stevenson, began with a brutal left hook to the liver that dropped him to a knee. Seconds after he the action resumed, Rabi landed another left, this time to Guevara’s chin and Guevara went down a second time. It was only another matter of mere seconds before Rabi landed a nice one-two combination against the ropes that prompted the stoppage.
Bantamweight Andrey Bonilla (3-0, 2 KOs) defended his WBA Continental Americas Title, disposing of Tennessee’s Ryan Shaw (8-1, 8 KOs) in round nine. The nineteen year-old from Texas is proving himself in front the Heavyweight Factory’s fans with his exciting offensive style and a strong chin. Bonilla made his pro debut on the Fists of Fury series in August of last year, and continues to wow the crowd and move up the WBA rankings.
Ari Bonilla (3-0, 2 KOs), twin brother to Andrey Bonilla, won a ten-round decision against a very experienced Josue Morales (32-17-4, 13 KOs). Ari was taunting the older opponent in the ring while remaining comfortably ahead on the judges scorecards for the third defense of his WBA Continental Americas Title.
Local favorite JD Martinez (20-3, 167KOs) was scheduled to meet Freddy Espinoza (10-8, 7 KOs) of Nicaragua but visa issues prevented the matchup. Replacement Ramon De La Cruz Sena (23-40-3, 13 KOs) of Argentina stepped in and out boxed Martinez. The contest was stopped I, round six of their scheduled eight round bout at middleweight, earning Sena the WBA NABA Middleweight Championship.
One of the crowd favorites of the evening was the scheduled eight round contest at welterweight between Monty Aboughaly (5-0, 2 KOs) and Sirarminius Williams (5-8, 3 KOs) for the NBA Intercontinental Welterweight Title. Aboughlay is the second pugilist of Egyptian descent to rise to prominence on the South Florida boxing scene, following in the footsteps of Ahmad Elbiali. Aboughaly was cornered by Timur Ibragimov and shows promise early in his career. Aboughaly knocked out Williams at 2:07 of the second round with a left hook to the temple.
Early results as follows:
Featherweight Victor Abreu (3-1-0) kncoked out Jose Saant (15-9-1) at 2:16 of round one.
