From Boxing to Bare Knuckle Fighting

Dat Nguyen (20-3, 7 KOs) is a prizefighter. He has training in many different facets of fighting and the defensive arts. Whether it be Muay Thai, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, or MMA, Dat knows a way to win when an opponent is standing directly in front of him. Now, he has a new venture: Bare Knuckle Fighting! As a kid in Vietnam and a teen growing up in Hawaii, Dat had his share of bare-fisted brawls. His small stature usually left him at a disadvantage when fighting someone much larger, but he never backed down. In fact, his speed and will typically left him on the winning side of these street fights. Now, he gets paid to do it all again. And, he’ll be fighting someone much closer to his own size on the big stage for money.

Known by his moniker of “Dat be Dat” after disparaging many of his opponents, two of Nguyen’s career boxing losses came at the hands of undefeated, future champions, whom he fought after long layoffs and with very little notice. However, in his last outing, he again took the fight with only a couple of weeks notice. This time, he was to fight Miguel Flores, who was a top Featherweight prospect, undefeated in his campaign with 22 straight victories and an imminent title shot on the horizon. Dat went out to Texas to fight in Miguel’s “backyard” only to destroy the contender by knocking him out in the sixth round. After pulling the massive upset as a 50-1 underdog, Dat’s phone stopped ringing. That was over two and a half years ago. Who would want to take a chance against him? Inevitably, the biggest win of his career would prove to be one of the worst things to happen to his career.

Now, though, Dat sets his sights on his new venture, hoping to shake off the cobwebs and get people to notice him once again. A big win on the televised portion of the worldwide pay-per-view card Saturday night could very well propel him into multiple opportunities, both with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) and/or back in the squared circle of boxing. We at The Fighting News wish him the best of luck!
